Overview and safety
What is IG?
IG is a long-established UK-headquartered trading and investing group whose leveraged offering includes forex, indices, commodities, shares, options and other derivatives; in the UK it also offers spread betting and non-leveraged investment products. IG advertises access to more than 15,000 markets through its own web/mobile platform and specialist integrations.
IG is not regulated through one worldwide company. Its official international comparison identifies locally supervised entities including FCA regulation in the UK, BaFin/Bundesbank supervision in the EU, ASIC in Australia, FINMA in Switzerland, FSCA in South Africa, MAS in Singapore, FMA in New Zealand, DFSA in Dubai, Japanese regulators and CFTC/NFA supervision for the US forex business.
What are the Pros of IG?
The main strengths are very broad market coverage, a long operating history, strong top-tier regulation in major jurisdictions and a mature platform stack.
For active comparison purposes, the most important concrete advantages are IG UK currently publishes minimum forex spreads of 0.6 pip on EUR/USD and AUD/USD, 0.7 on USD/JPY and 0.9 on EUR/GBP and GBP/USD and clients can use IG’s proprietary web/mobile platform, MetaTrader 4 for supported leveraged accounts and the integrated ProRealTime package, which supports 100+ indicators, algorithmic trading and long historical datasets.
What are the Cons of IG?
The main drawbacks are spread-based CFD pricing can be less attractive than raw-spread-plus-commission models for some very active traders, overnight financing applies to leveraged cash positions, and advanced add-ons can carry conditions or fees.
A prospective client should also account for jurisdiction differences: spread betting, share dealing, crypto, leverage limits, compensation schemes and product availability vary substantially between IG entities and countries
What are the IG Current Promos?
IG does not currently present one simple, permanent global welcome bonus that should be treated as part of the broker’s standard offer. For most visitors, the useful “promo” comparison is the permanent pricing/platform value rather than a temporary cash bonus.
| Value area | Current practical value | What to verify before opening |
|---|---|---|
| Forex pricing | IG UK publishes minimum spreads from 0.6 pip on selected major FX pairs | Check live spread and overnight-funding cost for your instrument |
| Demo access | UK demo accounts provide virtual funds for practising spread betting/CFDs | Demo conditions do not guarantee live execution or spreads |
| Platform access | IG platform, MT4 and ProRealTime are available in supported account structures | ProRealTime can have monthly-fee/waiver conditions |
| Active/professional services | Higher-volume/professional arrangements can exist by region | Must meet eligibility; professional status can reduce some retail protections |
If IG shows a referral or regional campaign on your local site, read the exact terms: eligible country, account type, qualifying deposit/trade, expiry date and whether the benefit is cash, credit or fee reduction.
What are the IG Highlights?
Key 2026 highlights include 15,000+ markets on the UK platform, 80+ FX pairs, published EUR/USD spreads from 0.6 pip, a £10,000 virtual balance on the UK demo account, and continued support for advanced ProRealTime automation alongside IG’s own platform and MT4. These are more useful than marketing slogans because they directly affect pricing, market access, platform capability or client protection.
What is the IG Origin Story?
IG traces its history to 1974 in the United Kingdom, originally building a market around leveraged access to gold before expanding into a broad multi-asset trading group. The group is now a listed financial-services company with regulated operations across Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa, the Middle East and the United States.
Is IG Legit and Trustworthy?
Yes, IG is an established legitimate financial-services provider. Its regulatory footprint spans several major financial centres, and the group has operated for more than five decades. In September 2025 IG also announced FCA cryptoasset registration for its expanding UK crypto offering.
That does not make every account equally protected; spread betting, share dealing, crypto, leverage limits, compensation schemes and product availability vary substantially between IG entities and countries
Is IG Regulated and who are the Regulators?
Yes. IG is regulated through separate legal entities, and the exact regulator and protections depend on the account, product and jurisdiction. A material U.S. identity correction is required: the entity previously called IG US LLC changed its legal name to tastyfx, LLC. Current tastyfx disclosures identify tastyfx, LLC as the CFTC-registered Retail Foreign Exchange Dealer (RFED) and Introducing Broker (IB) and NFA Forex Dealer Member (FDM), NFA ID 0509630. IG US LLC is therefore retained only as the former legal name of the same entity, not as a second current U.S. broker.

| IG International Limited | Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) | Current investment-business and digital-asset-business licence | Bermuda / international route |
Protections are entity-specific. Eligible claims against the UK FCA investment entities can fall within FSCS coverage subject to scheme rules. IG Europe GmbH states EdW protection of 90% of eligible transaction claims up to EUR 20,000 and EEA retail leveraged-product safeguards include negative-balance/client-asset protections. IG Bank S.A. has the Swiss esisuisse framework for eligible deposits. Those protections must not be transferred to another IG entity simply because the brand is shared.
The U.S. tastyfx route is different. tastyfx states that it is not an SEC broker-dealer, FINRA member or SIPC member, so securities-style SIPC protection must not be inferred. Its current proposition is retail off-exchange/spot forex under the CFTC/NFA framework.
Belgium remains a separate fit decision. No Belgium-specific IG serving entity or suitable onboarding route has been verified, and current IG regional disclosures exclude Belgian residents. Belgium's FSMA also prohibits consumer distribution via electronic platforms of leveraged OTC CFDs and rolling-spot forex. ForexBrokersInfo therefore keeps Belgian account opening disabled and does not infer access from IG Europe's EEA authorisation or from another country's IG/tastyfx entity.

Did IG win any Awards?
Yes. IG's current UK site names several 2026 platform awards.
| Award | Year | Issuer |
|---|---|---|
| Best Platform for the Active Trader | 2026 | ADVFN International Financial Awards |
| Best Multi Platform Provider | 2026 | ADVFN International Financial Awards |
| Voted Best Trading Platform | 2026 | Good Money Guide Awards |
These are useful platform-recognition signals, but they are tied to IG's UK offering and do not establish Belgian product availability. Belgian visitors still need the entity/product restrictions shown elsewhere in this review.
What type of Forex Broker is IG?
For retail leveraged trading, IG principally acts as an OTC derivatives provider/market maker rather than an ECN venue. Pricing is derived from underlying markets and IG manages its aggregate risk; some professional/DMA-style products use different execution arrangements. The exact execution model depends on product and jurisdiction.
How do I get in Contact with IG?
You should contact IG through the official IG Help & Support Hub or the contact page for the entity holding your account. IG UK states that support is available 24/7 except from 10pm Friday to 8am Saturday UK time.
| Contact route | Details | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Help & Support Hub | Available inside IG desktop/mobile platforms for live/demo account holders | Fastest route for account-specific support |
| Chat / WhatsApp | IG UK contact page routes users to chat or WhatsApp | General support and account-service questions |
| Registered IG email route | IG UK help articles reference helpdesk.uk@ig.com for some account actions | Formal account requests where email is allowed |
| Responsible-trading concern | IG UK contact page references compliance@ig.com for wellbeing/trading-impact concerns | Vulnerability or responsible-trading escalation |
| Media enquiries | IG UK media centre lists ig@teamspirit.co.uk | Press only, not account support |
| Registered office | IG UK about page identifies IG UK trading names and registered office | Formal legal/entity verification |
Do not use phone numbers or WhatsApp links from adverts, social media replies or unsolicited messages. Start from ig.com or the logged-in platform.
Where are the Headquarters from IG based?
IG Group is UK-headquartered, and IG’s UK site identifies the UK trading names IG Trading and Investments Ltd, IG Markets Ltd and IG Index Ltd. For a UK legal-entity check, IG’s UK about page is the authoritative starting point.
| Entity / location point | Practical meaning |
|---|---|
| IG Group / UK headquarters | IG is historically and operationally UK-centred, with a London registered-office structure |
| IG Trading and Investments Ltd | UK investment/share-dealing style entity name used by IG |
| IG Markets Ltd / IG Index Ltd | UK leveraged-trading/spread-betting/CFD entity names used by IG |
| International entities | EU, Australia, Switzerland, Singapore, South Africa, Dubai, Japan and US businesses use separate legal entities/regulators |
For legal notices, complaints or regulator checks, use the exact company named in the client agreement rather than only the IG brand name.
What kind of Customer Support is offered by IG?
IG support is multi-channel and platform-led. For existing users, the Help & Support Hub inside IG’s desktop or mobile platform is the preferred route because it connects the request to the account.
| Support channel | What it is useful for |
|---|---|
| Help & Support Hub in platform | Account-specific support, live/demo account questions, trading-platform issues |
| Chat / WhatsApp from contact page | Quick general support and account-service requests |
| Help Centre articles | Funding, withdrawals, verification, margin, orders and platform procedures |
| Email routes in help articles | Formal account actions where IG asks for registered-email confirmation |
| Responsible-trading escalation | Wellbeing, vulnerability or trading-impact concerns |
Support hours and channels vary by entity. UK support is described as 24/7 except the Friday-night/Saturday maintenance window.
Which Educational and Learning Materials are offered by IG?
IG has one of the broader education stacks among large retail trading providers. The core visitor value is IG Academy plus platform-specific learning.
| Learning resource | What it helps with |
|---|---|
| IG Academy | Structured beginner/intermediate trading courses and quizzes |
| Demo account | Practise IG spread betting/CFDs with virtual funds before live trading |
| Help Centre | Practical account, funding, order, margin and platform workflows |
| Platform guides | IG web/mobile usage, order tickets, watchlists and alerts |
| ProRealTime resources | Advanced charting, indicators, backtesting and automation workflows |
| Market/news content | Market context and trade idea education, not personalised advice |
The strongest practical use is learning the platform and risk mechanics before using leverage. Educational material should not be treated as investment advice.
Does IG hedge Positions?
IG should be treated as an OTC derivatives provider for most retail leveraged products, not as a broker that promises to hedge every single client trade one-for-one. IG prices client CFDs/spread bets from underlying markets and manages its aggregate market exposure under its own execution and risk policies.
| Product / workflow | Execution implication |
|---|---|
| Retail CFDs / spread bets | IG is typically the contractual counterparty; pricing is derived from underlying markets |
| Aggregate risk management | IG may hedge net exposure rather than mirror every client trade individually |
| MT4 with IG | MT4 is an interface to IG’s leveraged product offering, not proof of ECN routing |
| ProRealTime / advanced tools | Improves charting/automation workflow; does not change the legal counterparty by itself |
| DMA/professional arrangements | Can have different mechanics and eligibility, so check the product documentation |
For risk purposes, a visitor should assume counterparty, spread, slippage and financing terms are defined by the IG entity and product contract.
Accounts and eligibility
Can anyone join IG?
Eligibility depends on residence, age, sanctions restrictions, product suitability and the permissions of the local IG entity. Leveraged products require appropriateness/suitability checks, and some products such as UK spread betting are geographically restricted.
Who should sign up with IG?
IG is best suited to traders who value a large regulated provider, wide market access, strong proprietary software and the option to combine IG’s platform with MT4 or ProRealTime
Who should NOT sign up with IG?
IG is a weaker fit for traders seeking a simple raw-spread commission account everywhere, people who need identical products across countries, or anyone who does not understand the high loss risk of leveraged CFDs and spread bets
Does IG offer Discounts, Coupons, or Promo Codes?
Pricing discounts and active-trader arrangements can exist for eligible high-volume clients, but there is no universal coupon-code model. Any rebate or referral offer should be checked against the local entity’s current terms.
Which Account Types are offered by IG?
The exact account menu depends on country. In the UK, IG separates spread-betting, CFD, share-dealing/investment and tax-wrapper products, with professional classification available to qualifying clients; demo accounts are available for leveraged trading. Other regions generally focus on CFDs and local investment products.
How to Open a IG LIVE Account?
To open a live account, choose the appropriate local IG site, select the required account, provide personal and tax information, complete the product-knowledge/risk questions, verify identity and address where requested, then fund through My IG after approval. The broker must complete identity, residency and suitability/appropriateness checks before regulated products are enabled.
How to Open a IG DEMO account?
IG UK provides demo spread-betting/CFD accounts with £10,000 in virtual funds. Existing live clients can add/access demo accounts from My IG, and an MT4 demo is also available for users who want to practise on MetaTrader.
If I violate the Trading Objectives of IG do I get a second chance?
IG is not a proprietary-trading challenge, so there are no 'trading objectives' whose breach automatically terminates a funded challenge. Normal account restrictions instead come from margin rules, product permissions, suitability checks and the client agreement.
How Are You Protected as a Client at IG?
Protection depends on entity. Regulated retail entities apply client-money segregation rules and local complaints/compensation frameworks where applicable; retail leveraged clients in jurisdictions such as the UK/EU also receive regulatory leverage limits and negative-balance protections. Verify the exact entity because compensation eligibility and limits are not global.
What are IG AML ID requirements?
IG performs KYC/AML checks on identity, address, payment ownership and source of funds. UK withdrawal guidance states that payment methods and bank accounts may need verification and must be linked to the client; third-party funding is not accepted for normal personal accounts.
Deposits, withdrawals and fees
Which Deposit and Withdrawal options are available at IG?
UK clients can fund by bank transfer, debit/credit card and Apple Pay, while withdrawals are normally returned by bank transfer or card/Apple Pay subject to ownership checks. Methods and limits differ by currency and region.
Which Funding methods or Deposit Options are available at IG?
IG UK accepts bank transfer, debit/credit cards and Apple Pay for eligible personal accounts. Corporate accounts fund by bank transfer, and third-party funding is not accepted.
What is the Minimum Deposit Amount at IG?
There is no minimum for UK bank-transfer deposits. Card minimums are currency-specific: the current UK help page lists £1 for GBP, US$50 for USD, €300 for EUR and A$100 for AUD, among other currencies.
Which Withdrawal methods are available at IG?
UK withdrawals are available by bank transfer and, where eligible, back to card/Apple Pay. The published minimum is normally £100 (or currency equivalent), but a client with a smaller available balance and no open positions/orders may withdraw the remaining balance.
How can I Withdraw Money from IG Step by Step?
Log in to My IG, open the payment/withdrawal area, choose the receiving method, enter the amount and complete any bank/card verification requested. UK card/Apple Pay requests before the published cutoff are processed the same day but can take up to five working days to arrive; bank transfers can arrive the same day or take several working days depending on route.
Does IG Payout?
IG is a regulated broker, not a fixed-return scheme. Valid withdrawals are processed subject to settlement, available margin, AML/payment-method checks and normal banking timelines; UK guidance publishes explicit processing windows rather than promising instant payouts.
Which Fees are charged by IG?
Forex/indices are generally priced through the spread plus overnight financing for cash positions. Share CFDs can carry commissions. ProRealTime is free for the first month in the UK and then £30 per month, with the fee waived when IG earns more than £15 in monthly spread/commission activity. Currency conversion and other product-specific charges can also apply.
Trading conditions and platforms
What can I trade with IG?
IG offers forex, indices, shares, commodities, options and other leveraged markets, plus non-leveraged investments in selected regions. The UK platform advertises 15,000+ markets and more than 80 currency pairs.
Which Trading Platforms are offered by IG?
The core offering is IG’s proprietary web platform and mobile app. Supported leveraged accounts can also use MT4, while ProRealTime is integrated for advanced charting, automation and backtesting. Availability varies by entity and product.
Which Trading Instruments are offered by IG?
Depending on country, instruments include spot/forward-style forex CFDs, index CFDs, commodity CFDs, share CFDs, options and other derivatives, plus non-leveraged shares/ETFs and crypto services in selected markets.
Which Trading Servers are offered by IG?
IG’s proprietary platform is web/app based, so retail users do not normally select a trading server manually. MT4 users receive the correct IG server/login details for their account; ProRealTime connects through the IG integration.
Which are the Base Currencies supported by IG?
IG supports multiple account and payment currencies, with availability determined by entity and account type. Its UK funding tables include GBP, EUR, USD, AUD, CAD, CHF, NZD, SGD, PLN, DKK, NOK, SEK, HKD, ZAR, JPY, CNH/CNY, CZK, HUF and RON for card-deposit limits, but that does not mean every account can be denominated in every listed currency.
Can I trade Crypto with IG? Which crypto currencies are supported by IG?
Crypto availability is jurisdiction-specific. IG announced an FCA cryptoasset registration in September 2025 and has been expanding UK crypto services; other entities may offer crypto CFDs rather than transferable coins, or may restrict crypto entirely. Check whether you are buying an asset or trading a derivative.
What is the Leverage on my IG Trading Account?
Retail leverage is capped by local regulation. In the UK, major forex pairs use a 3.33% retail margin requirement, equivalent to about 30:1 leverage; professional clients can qualify for different margin rates. Other jurisdictions publish different limits.
How can I change the Leverage on my IG Trading Account?
Retail clients cannot simply override statutory margin limits. Higher professional leverage requires meeting the local professional-client eligibility criteria; otherwise margin is determined by the instrument and regulatory classification.
What kind of Spreads are offered by IG?
IG UK currently publishes minimum spreads of 0.6 pip on EUR/USD and AUD/USD, 0.7 on USD/JPY, 0.9 on EUR/GBP and GBP/USD, and 1.5 on EUR/JPY and USD/CHF. Spreads are variable and can widen during illiquid periods or major news.
Does IG offer MAM Accounts or PAMM Accounts?
IG does not market a conventional retail PAMM/MAM account as a core product. Professional/institutional and managed-investment services are structured differently, so users seeking a classic MT4 MAM/PAMM arrangement should verify availability with the relevant entity.
Does IG allow Expert Advisors?
Automated strategies are supported through MT4 Expert Advisors and ProRealTime algorithmic tools, subject to product and account rules. IG’s own platform also supports advanced order types but is not an MT4 EA environment.
Does IG offer Copytrading?
IG does not position a native social-copy network as a core feature comparable with dedicated copy-trading brokers. Users can use platform automation and third-party strategy tools where permitted, but should not assume built-in one-click copying is available in every region.
