Breakout Trading

Enter when price moves beyond a defined support, resistance or consolidation boundary.

Risk first. Forex, CFDs, copy trading, signals and automated strategies can all lose money. Performance claims and backtests do not guarantee future results. Verify the legal entity, product availability and rules that apply in your country before funding an account.

Market focusPairs with strong liquidity around active sessions

When the strategy tends to make sense

Compression followed by a genuine expansion in volatility and participation.

When it tends to fail

False breakouts, thin liquidity and chasing price too far from the invalidation level.

Testing checklist

  1. Mark the level before the breakout occurs.
  2. Define what counts as confirmation: close, retest, volatility or volume proxy.
  3. Set a maximum distance you are willing to chase.
  4. Calculate position size from the stop distance.
  5. Track false-breakout frequency by session and currency pair.
Key risk

News spikes and stop runs can cross a level and immediately reverse. A breakout is not automatically confirmation.
