What traders should know

Use the FSCA register to verify the exact Financial Services Provider (FSP), its licence number and authorised services.
An FSP licence alone is not automatically an OTC-derivatives dealing licence. The FSCA has stated that a firm acting as an OTC Derivatives Provider for CFDs must also have the required ODP authorisation; some South African FSPs instead act only as intermediaries to a separate product supplier.
Do not assume that a South African brand page means the South African company is the trading counterparty. Check the account-opening disclosure and client agreement for the product supplier or issuer.
South African protections are not identical to UK or EU retail CFD rules. Negative-balance protection, client-money treatment and compensation arrangements must be verified for the serving entity.
